Together with Klaipėdos Senamiesčio Rotaract Klubas, we joined a global seaside cleanup initiative known as #WeLoveTheSea. In case you are interested in reading more about this initiative you can check out the following link: https://www.initiativesoceanes.org/en/program/about. The #WeLoveTheSea initiative goal aligns with the goals of the “Peachy Clean” initiative by The Rotaract club of Zenith.
On 31st of March 2019, our two clubs organized a cleanup event of Giruliai and Melnrage beaches in Klaipėda, Lithuania.
The amount of people that showed up at the event was unbelievable. There were far more people than expected, which turned out to be a great asset as we could clean more territory. We were surprised to find out that the most common item picked up by our participants were cigarette buds. Since we had more people, we were able to extend our operations into the woods area. While cleaning the woods, we found a significant amount of trash that we believe was blown out of the convenienty placed trash bins by the famous Klaipeda strong winds. In the end of the event, we stoped by Ateik Ateik (a local restaurant by the sea) and had a picnic.
We are so grateful for being part of such a huge sea cleaning movement that promotes clean environment for everyone.
